Top Reasons to have a Studio Newborn Session

Are you considering a studio newborn session? Maybe you’re unsure what that would look like or how that works. I am a huge proponent of studio sessions for newborns for so many reasons. Let’s talk through some of those today!

Why should I consider a studio newborn session?

One of the best reasons to do a studio session is that you can be assured that your photos will match the style of images I take. A studio full of natural light ensures that we capture beautiful images of your new little one and images with the rest of the family (mom, dad and siblings). Light is one of the most important ingredients to beautiful images, and a studio setting allows me to give you that in your images.

Where is the studio located?

I usually photograph in one of two studio locations, located in Maple Grove or Lino Lakes, Minnesota. Both are equally beautiful and easy to drive and park as you venture out with your new little one. For many families, this is their first outing after bringing baby home from the hospital.

What should I wear for the session?

Moms, I have you covered with the Client Wardrobe, which includes dresses that photograph beautifully for your post-partum body. With mostly neutral tones, subtle patterns and textures, any dress you choose from the wardrobe will look great on you in your session. These dresses not only look beautiful, but they are soft and feminine while also being extremely comfortable. I don’t want you stressing over what size you might be after baby is born, so let me take care of this part for you! No shopping / returns / last minute trips to the mall, ok?!

Dads should wear a light color or neutral top such as a button down, henley, or sweater. Chinos, traveler pants, khakis or a nice pair of jeans pair well. Think business casual and don’t be afraid to look nice for these first photos of your family!

How long is a newborn session?

My newborn sessions take approximately and hour and a half, depending on whether baby needs to eat or have a diaper change during the session. I photograph your baby alone for some solo images, baby with mom, baby with dad, baby with both parents and any siblings, as well. The goal is to capture your love and connection with each other, which is why parents play a crucial role in each of my newborn sessions.

What do I do with the final images?

Once your images have been edited, we get together for your gallery reveal and ordering appointment. This is where you view your images for the very first time and decide how you would like to enjoy them in your home. Whether you’re looking for a custom frame of your family photo, a gallery wall with multiple frames or an album to hold your favorites, I will help you narrow down and design your heirloom pieces. If you choose wall art, I will even come install your frames in your home so you don’t have to worry about that part of it!

When should I book my newborn session?

I recommend booking your newborn session when you’re in your second trimester. Prior to your baby’s arrival, you can select your dress and have that part all figured out ahead of time. Reach out today to start the conversation about getting your Minneapolis newborn session scheduled!
