As a mom, I know that when you’re expecting your first baby, you have a to-do list that is a mile long. That’s why I’ve put together some of the top questions that Minneapolis moms ask us about newborn sessions.
As soon as possible! Many expecting mamas will often reach out to book their session before they have officially even announced their pregnancy.
Maternity sessions take place anywhere from weeks 26-32 of pregnancy. This allows time to reschedule in case of weather or any health concerns that may arise toward the end of pregnancy. It is also the ‘sweet spot’ of pregnancy when you’ll be feeling energetic. You will start feeling less mobile in your third trimester, so the end of the second trimester is the best time to photograph your baby bump in comfort.
Newborn portrait sessions take place one to three weeks after your little one lands earth-side, and so once you know your due date, definitely reach out.
To ensure that I am able to best serve my clients and have your due date on my calendar, I take only six Signature Sessions per month.
Neutral tones and colors are best for newborn photos, as they allow the focus of the images to be on the people and not the outfits.
Reducing the stress of your newborn session shoot is an important part of the experience, so I have curated a Client Wardrobe with dozens of beautiful dress options to fit post-partum mamas.
Not only are dresses beautiful and feminine in photos, but they are also comfortable to wear soon after you give birth. The styles are flattering on every body type, and you’ll enjoy looking through the options in your Wardrobe Appointment prior to your session.
You won’t have to go shopping at the mall or wait for packages to arrive or purchase something you may only wear once for photos.
In the studio!
By coming to the studio, you don’t have to think about having a perfectly clean home or worry about what will photograph well. My goal is for you to enjoy your newborn without the stress of getting the setting perfect – that’s my job!
We welcome our littlest clients to the studio 1-3 weeks after birth. The sessions are very relaxed and capture a combination of baby alone and baby with parents and siblings. I usually schedule newborn sessions for weekday mornings, when the studio is full of beautiful, natural light.
While many moms choose to add hair and makeup to their session, it is not required. I am happy to coordinate and schedule a professional hair and makeup artist for you, and then you take care of the payment on the day of your session.
This is the perfect time for you to be pampered and feel beautiful for your first family portraits with your new baby. Let your partner take care of the baby for an hour while my recommended hair and makeup artist gets you ready for your session. Having a professional artist take care of you ensures that you will look and feel your best, and your newborn photos will be stunning.
P.S. it’s really hard to curl your own hair while holding a baby. Let the pros take care of you!
Absolutely.
The First Year Membership is the most popular option for new parents. The experience includes 3-4 Signature Sessions within 18 months of baby’s first year, and often include maternity, newborn, 6 month and one year old milestone sessions.
Most of the First Year Collective families choose to create the ultimate baby album – meaning their favorite 10-15 images from each session are custom designed into one big, beautiful album at the end of the year. It is truly an heirloom piece that you can one day pass down to your child.
Your memories deserve to be printed and proudly hung on walls to tell the story of your family. Even the small moments deserve to be savored and poured over by little hands turning the pages of albums.
Families work with me because I help them in the final step of the portrait-making process – designing, ordering, and installing artwork for them to enjoy in their homes.
My job is not complete until your frames have been hung and your album is displayed on your coffee table.
The most popular artwork options are gallery walls of custom frames and albums. These tangible pieces ensure that you enjoy the images from your session for years to come.
